Always happy to play this room. It sounds good, and they always treat us really well at McLintocks!
Our next SLO Down Pub show, our friend Skye Ferguson is coming up from Santa Barbara to jam with us! This man is an amazing blues guitar player, and can sing up a storm as well. He’s played in Buddy Guy’s band, and Jerry’s played in his band, oh so many years ago. Skye helped us launch the Firecracker Boogie back in 2008 and 2009, and played a rocking show with us at the Pub a couple years ago. It’s going to be great to hear him again, don’t miss it!
Here’s wishing a great new year to all our friends! We kicked it off at the New Life Church in Pismo, for their singles club. Is it odd for a club to want their members to become non-qualified? Hopefully we helped a few on the way towards being non-single in 2013.
Looking forward to fun times this year! Our new album, “Second Opinion“, will be out this spring, fingers crossed. We’ve got nine songs in the can, but want to add two or three more, hopefully with a couple special guests.
The 6th annual Firecracker Boogie will be June 29th. Tentative lineup includes Big Daddy’s Blues Band and Shockwave, from Fresno, with Brad’s little bro Mark on lead vocals.
We won the New Times Music Award for Best Blues/R&B Recording for the last TWO YEARS. Both songs will be on the new album. (Everynight Blues and Betta Treat Me Right) Can we go for a three-peat? Brad’s ballad “Loving You” will be a contender, and possibly a new one from Brent. Gotta record a new one for Linda to sing – hmm, I think she’s been working up some lyrics…
We’re working on the album this month – our next show is Friday February 22nd at the SLO Down Pub in Arroyo Grande. Come on out and say hello!
So, we’ve been rehearsing and recording at Black Hawk for a couple months now. Very nice digs! And the room sound is very nice and warm, good separation between the instruments. Ice Cream Audio sounded really good for some stuff, especially “wall of sound”, but not for everything. I think Black Hawk will be more versatile.
Anyway, getting close to done with our second album. Recorded some backing vocals on a couple songs, and recorded an acoustic version of ”Loving You” last week. My friend Tom Lucas is going to do some fiddle and banjo playing on “Mary Jane”, can’t wait to hear how that turns out. We’ve got Brad’s brother Mark coming in from the Valley to do a guest spot on bass for “Burn Tonight”, and we’re hoping to get Ray over to lay down a Whammer Jammer with us. So still a couple songs to do, but should be done recording in January, then mixing, then mastering, and Bob’s your uncle. (We’re on the one CD every two years plan, apparently.)
2013 is gonna be a great year for the old Doc, lots of good stuff coming up!
